CNTA has 22 overseas tourist offices around the world including two in the U.S.: one in New York and one in Los Angeles.
Tourism in China is a booming industry. In the year 2002, a total of 97.91 million people visited China and China’s international tourism revenue was 20.4 billion U.S. dollars. It has become one of the fastest growing sectors for China’s economy.
Like the other overseas tourist offices, the CNTO in New York and Los Angeles are non-profit government organizations. CNTO’s mission is to develop and promote all aspects of tourism to China within the United States. CNTO is responsible for educating both the general public and the travel industry about China, which is achieved through attendance and promotion at travel trade shows, consumer shows, seminars, through familiarization trips and other ongoing promotions.
The CNTO in New York and Los Angeles assist travel agents and tour operators in selling China to Americans by providing them with sales tools, including travel brochures, videos, displays and other materials. CNTO in New York and Los Angeles also provide travel brochures, maps and general information to the public.
