INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

LEAP — LEADERSHIP IN ACTION (LIA)

Celebrating its 20th year, Leadership In Action (LIA) is an eight-week, paid summer internship program that develops the next generation of college student leaders. LIA builds an intentional leadership and hands-on work experience around three themes:

Thinking – Leadership Development Trainings

Interns will spend an intensive first week in leadership and workplace skills development trainings preparing for work at their community-based organization (CBO) placement as well as building connections to their cohort. Each week after, interns will gather once a week for high-impact workshops led by nationally-recognized leadership trainers and facilitators. Trainings include exploring API cultural values and issues, developing leadership ideas and concepts, public speaking, and sharpening professional development and workforce readiness skills. Through participation in the trainings, LIA interns will think deeply, connect and dialogue with other emerging young leaders, as well as grow their leadership capacity.

Doing – Community-Based Organization Internship

Each intern will be placed with and work four days a week at an API-serving Southern California CBO. Interns will work closely with a supervisor to develop a work plan and meaningful projects. As a result, interns will gain practical hands-on work experience, gain insight about work in the nonprofit sector, all while supporting important community work.

Making – Team Community Impact Project

Additionally, LIA Interns will work together to develop a Team Community Impact Project. Throughout the summer, interns will dialogue and share new perspectives and ideas, apply and practice their leadership skills, and, most importantly, create and implement a team project that elevates the visibility and makes an impact in the API community.
