The very first Yang Chow opened its doors in 1977, in the heart of Chinatown. Located beneath the Bing Wong Hotel, it was a former diner that was converted into a two room eatery. Started by family of five brothers who named the restaurant after their hometown. It was not their first foray into the restaurant business. The Yun family comes from generations of cooks and restauranteurs. Lotus Garden was actually the first Los Angeles based family business venture that proved to be unable to withstand the test of time.

An LA Times article highlighting the restaurant’s signature dish in the early 1980s, along with a recipe for the dish, Slippery Shrimp, brought visibility to the Yang Chow. Some customers came with the article in hand asking to try a dish with a memorable name. From that time, business started to climb steadily and the business expanded to two additional locations in the San Fernando and San Gabriel Valleys.

The Yun Family thanks everyone for their patronage and hope to continue the tradition of good food and good service for many more generations to come.
